The Dumbbell Nebula, designation M27 or NGC 6853 is a small (diameter ca. 8 arcminutes) planetary nebula in the constellation of Vulpecula. It lies approximately 1300 ly from earth and has an apparent magnitude of 7.5. A planetary nebula is a small area of nebulosity that surrounds a central white dwarf progenitor star. A full colour camera image clearly shows details within, and extending beyond, the main envelope. A well deserved place in our “Klein & Fein” showcase.
