Sadr is the central star of the constellation Cygnus (The Swan). it is surrounded by extensive diffuse emission and dark nebulae, many of which have separate designations. The brighter regions in the lower portion of the image are known together as the Butterfly Nebula or Gamma Cygni Nebula, and has the designation IC 1318. Hydrogen-alpha and Sulphur-II emission data have been combined in this dramatic rendition that is part of the “Flaming Sky” showcase.
